Route Description for Sheep Bridge Trail
While short, the Sheep Bridge Hike is steep—though the payoff is well worth the sweat, trust us. Hike down into the Middle Popo Agie Canyon through granite gardens, flowering meadows, and pine tree stands. Located in a more secluded area of the range, this route sees little traffic, so you will likely enjoy a tranquil experience. Note that bears have been spotted along this route, so make sure you are bear aware and keep a canister of bear spray within reach!
Setting out from the trailhead, the Sheep Bridge Trail travels north, climbing up to a ridge overlooking Worthen Meadow Reservoir. From here, the path will briefly dip before ascending another small hill. Beyond this point, the path will begin to descend into the Middle Popo Agie River. Take your time and mind your footing on the rocky and uneven terrain. Keeping an eye out for bears and wildlife along the way, you will ultimately reach the riverbank.
Stand atop Sheep Bridge over the river and revel in the sounds in the surging waters. Enjoy the sounds and the scenery, then rehydrate before beginning your climb back up to the trailhead. To get back, simply retrace your steps along the rocky route.
