Route Description for Fountain Flat Drive Trail

The hike along Fountain Flat Drive is an easy route that features lovely views of Yellowstone National Park. Both day hikers and mountain bikers use this trail. When hiking, remain aware of your surroundings and allow folks on wheels to pass you by. This trail can be fun for the whole family with lovely views and easy terrain. Be sure to check out the Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook near the end of the trail to see one of the Park’s most famous geothermal features in all its glory.

Beginning at the Fountain Flats Drive/ Fright Road Trailhead, follow the gravel path south across the Firehole River and past Goose Lake to a junction with the Fairy Falls Trail. Just past this junction, check out the Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook Trail on your right. From the overlook, continue
southeast along the Fountain Flat Drive Trail for just over half a mile to the trail’s end at Grand Loop Road.

For a longer hike in the area, check out the Fairy Falls and Imperial Geyser Loop.

This hike begins at the Fountain Flat Drive/Freight Road Trailhead at the south end of Fountain Flat Drive.
