Crystal Caves Hike

The Crystal Caves trail is a stunning hike in Yoho National Park that will lead you along the shores of Lake O’Hara to reach a quaint cave overlooking the scenic landscape. This trail does feature a small elevation gain, although it is perfectly suited for a fun family hike. Hikers should note that this trailhead is only accessible by the reservable Lake O’Hara shuttle. If you aren’t able to arrange the shuttle, you will need to hike an extra 11.0 km along the road.

Route Description for Crystal Caves Hike
Hiking the Crystal Caves Trail is a breathtaking experience that is popular with hikers of all ages and skill levels, due to the spectacular scenery that can be found at every point along the trail. Setting out from the edge of Lake O’Hara, the trail will take you toward the southeast to enjoy some truly superb views across the crystal-clear water of the Wiwaxy Peaks to the northeast, as well Mount Schaffer and All Soul’s Prospect to the southwest. From here, you will pick up a faint, slightly overgrown trail on the right that will take you gently uphill to reach a charming cave with views overlooking the lake and surrounding landscape. Continue along the trail, as it leads you downhill toward the edge of the lake for some more amazing views before backtracking along the same path to return to the trailhead.
Getting to the Crystal Caves Hike Trailhead
To reach the Crystal Caves Hike trailhead from Field, make your way to the northeast on BC-1E for 13.3 km and turn right onto O’Hara Park, continuing along it for 500 m to reach the car park. From here, you will need to either catch your reserved shuttle to the trailhead or hike 11.0 km south along the road.
