Route Description for Crowsnest Mountain
Crowsnest Mountain is a difficult scramble in the heart of Crowsnest Pass. It is visible from the highway and makes for a notable landmark in the region. If you are ready for a big adventure and comfortable with exposure, you’ll love this trail. Be sure to have a good idea of the route and carry a GPS with you to ensure you stay on the right path. Much of the route is on scree slopes and difficult terrain. The traverse to the summit requires lots of hands-on scrambling and is reserved for advanced hikers. Finding the trailhead can be a difficult task. You will need to locate a small hiker’s sign along a clear cut. Follow the cutline to the base of the mountain, and be prepared to cross streams depending on the season. Begin to gain elevation and meet the treeline where your view will open up. Follow the path in the scree to the ascent gully. The gully is a slog and requires some hands-on moments. We recommend taking a helmet in case of rockfall. Once you gain the saddle above the gully, follow the obvious paths to the summit. You will traverse across the top of the mountain to reach the top. The views are incredible and worth the effort. You will descend the same way, and should be able to make up some time in the scree.Getting to the Crowsnest Mountain Trailhead
