Itinerary for 7-Day AlpFrontTrail Hiking Tour
Arrive in Villabassa/Dobbiaco
Your tour begins today with arrival on your own to Villabassa or Dobbiaco (to be confirmed at time of booking). Check-in to your hotel and get prepared for some thrilling days ahead on the trails.
Transfer to Sesto and Hike to Misurina
Your hiking adventure begins with a transfer to the scenic Fischlein Valley in Sesto/Sexten. From there, you’ll trek beneath the dramatic Paternkofel—site of fierce World War I battles and where famed mountain guide Sepp Innerkofler lost his life—toward the iconic Three Peaks, a symbol of the Dolomites and part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
Above the picturesque town of Misurina lies Monte Piano, once a divided battlefield between Austrian and Italian forces. Today, it serves as a powerful open-air museum commemorating the First World War.
Hike the Tre Croci Pass to Cortina d’Ampezzo
Today’s journey is steeped in history, as you hike at the foot of the towering Cristallo Group. The trail crosses the scenic Tre Croci Pass, leading to Cortina d’Ampezzo. Once part of the Habsburg Empire, Cortina became Italian after 1918. Just 38 years later, it welcomed athletes from around the world for the Winter Olympics—and will do so again in 2026, co-hosting the Games with Milan!
Hike through History to Passo Falzarego
Your day begins with a hike to Col Drusciè, beneath the striking rock faces of the famous Tofana. From there, ascend toward the summit of Lagazuoi—a mountain once transformed into a fortress during World War I, with soldiers carving tunnels and trenches deep into the rock.
Today, you can explore this remarkable open-air museum, including restored bunkers, artillery positions, and a 1 km-long tunnel leading through the mountain into the valley. If you prefer a shorter route, a cable car from the summit takes you directly down to the Falzarego Pass.
Explore the Buchenstein Castle Enroute to Arabba
Soon after setting out, you'll pass the striking Buchenstein Castle (Castello di Andraz), perched on a rock at 1,730 m and dating back to the early 11th century—now home to a fascinating museum. From this glimpse into the Middle Ages, your journey shifts to World War I history as you ascend Col di Lana and Monte Sief. Col di Lana, known as the “Mountain of Blood,” became infamous when Italian forces, unable to seize the summit, tunneled beneath it to blow up the Austrian position. For a shorter route, part of the stage can be covered by bus today.
Hike to Canazei
In the morning, take the cable car to the starting point of your hike. From Rifugio Luigi Gorza, you’ll follow the scenic ridge trail above the Fedaia Pass toward Pordoi, enjoying sweeping panoramic views of the Marmolada along the way. At Col di Rosc, you’ll then descend by cable car into the valley, then continue on foot to Canazei in the Fassa Valley—your destination for the day!
Return Transfer to Villabassa/Dobbiaco for Departure
Your hike comes to an end this morning following breakfast. A return transfer will take you back to Villabassa or Dobbiaco where your tour began.
