Itinerary for Tuscan Family Cycling Tour
Arrival in Pisa
Settle into your lovely hotel once you arrive in Pisa. The kids might enjoy a dip in the hotel pool, or you can spend the rest of the day strolling the city and finding a spot to enjoy some mouthwatering Tuscan food
Bike to Certosa of Calci
The first adventure on your family Tuscan cycling tour is a ride to the impressive Certosa of Calci monastery, which houses a museum of natural history and was built back in 1366. Biking through the countryside near Pisa is blissful, and you’ll get another look at the city’s pastel houses and rustic towers when you ride back through at the end of the trip.
Bike to Lucca
Today’s cycling adventure is nearly all flat, so you can focus on the views as you ride along the Serchio River. Lucca is charming, and riding around the splendid gardens and bell tower is simply great. Make sure to take a peek at Piazza Anfiteatro, a 2nd century Roman amphitheater.
Lucca villa loop
Today, set off into the Lucchese foothills to ride through the many stunning villas around the city. The palaces feature the most incredible, lush gardens, which makes the day even easier on the eyes. Follow the Serchio River home for a tasty dinner.
Bike to Vinci
After a quick morning transfer to Altopascio, the family will ride through the Padule of Fucecchio nature reserve. Here, enjoy the all-encompassing green of nature and keep an eye out for migratory birds. Then, you’ll finish the day’s ride at a farm just outside of Vinci, where you can enjoy dinner and rest your legs.
Vinci loop
On one of the most interesting days in your family cycling tour of Tuscany, you’ll ride through the hometown of Leonardo da Vinci. Stop in at one of the museums detailing his life and work, where you can see his designs and inventions in person. Then, ride up to the house where he was born- it’s got an excellent view!
Bike to Cerreto Guidi or Excursion to Florence
The last full day of your family cycling tour of Tuscany can be enjoyed two ways. The first option is a round trip near Vinci, with a ride to the village of Cerreto Guidi. Here, a towering Medici palace beckons to be explored! The other option entails a ride into Empoli, where you’ll hop onto the train to downtown Florence. Spend the afternoon strolling the many gorgeous streets, grab a cappuccino, or tempt the kids with some gelato. You’ll hop back on the train to Vinci before nightfall.
Farewell, Tuscany!
Enjoy a final breakfast with the family before transferring to Empoli railway station, where you can take the train into Florence, or anywhere else. Arrivederci!
