Today’s bike route leads you from Frankfurt – always along the river Main – to the medieval old town of Höchst. It once belonged to the possessions of the Archbishopric of Main; today it is a district of Frankfurt. After a leisurely break – perhaps with Ebbelwoi and handkäs with music (local applewine and cheese) – the tour goes on towards Eddersheim. After you have passed the first vineyards and old towns, you will reach the river mouth of the river Main into the Rhine. Crossing the Rhine, you will now reach Mainz, the capital of Rhineland-Palatinate. The city looks back on over 2000 years of history. Sights such as the mighty cathedral or the Gutenberg Museum are waiting for your visit.
Overnight in Mainz.
After a relaxing night in the old Roman city of Mainz, you cycle today along the Rhine. Important wine towns and fantastic views are waiting for you. After you have passed the picturesque town of Eltville, you will reach the world-famous wine town of Rüdesheim am Rhein. A detour to the Niederwald monument with the chairlift is highly recommended. The view from the top is fantastic. Behind Rüdesheim, you change to the other side of the river. Soon already you will see Kaub with it’s almost 700-year-old toll castle, which stands on a small island in the middle of the Rhine. The tour continues through the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Upper Middle Rhine Valley”. The cultural landscape is characterized by winegrowing. After a break in the picturesque town of Bacharach with many photo-motifs, you will reach Oberwesel. The small town still has parts of its city wall with 16 defensive towers. The medieval castle Schönburg is perched high on the valley trail. The many wine taverns invite you to a glass of wine and tasty specialties from the region.

The cycling tour continues on the western left bank of the Rhine. Between Urbar and St. Goar you have a great view of the world famous and legendary Loreley Rock. According to the narrative, a woman has combed her hair on the rock and with her singing bewitched the sailors who then capsized and died. A bronze statue at the foot of the rock recalls this legend. We continue on the bikes to Boppard. There is a ride with a chair lift to the “Vierseenblick”. From here you have a unique view of the Rhine. Behind Boppard it is only a few kilometers to Koblenz. High above the city lies the fortress Ehrenbreitstein. Since the national Garden Show 2011, a cable car has been taking visitors from the Old Town across the Rhine to the former Prussian fortress. At the German corner you will be welcomed by Emperor Wilhelm I in the city at the Rhine and Moselle.

Begin your day by exploring Koblenz's rich history and vibrant atmosphere. Take a cable car ride to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress for a panoramic view of the city. Pedal along the serene Moselle, passing through Winningen and its vineyards. Discover the charming village of Kobern-Gondorf with its historic half-timbered houses. Stop for a moment to visit the Eltz fairy tale castle, a short detour from Moselkern. The route guides you along the banks of the Moselle, and you'll eventually reach Cochem, famous for its Reichsburg castle and stunning fortress complexes.

Depart from Cochem and enjoy breathtaking views of the Calmont vineyard, Europe's steepest. Traverse wine slopes that beckon you to experience a wine-tasting at traditional taverns. Marvel at the Marienburg castle before reaching the picturesque Moselle loop in Zell. Pedal through Zeltingen's grand baroque buildings, a showcase of Moselle tradition. A side-trip to Bernkastel-Kues offers the beauty of a market square surrounded by half-timbered houses. Your day concludes in Traben Trarbach, a town adorned with charm.

Today, venture through wine villages, soaking in the tranquility along the Moselle. Pass by the impressively restored roman cellar in Piesport, dating back to the 4th century. Cycle to Neumagen-Dhron, Germany's oldest wine village, and enjoy the journey's remarkable sights. The day culminates in Piesport, offering a blend of history and wine culture.

Pedal through the Moselle's tranquil beauty, passing the vineyards above Trittenheim. Cross one of the oldest bridges to view preserved ferry towers. Visit Neumagen-Dhron, Germany's oldest wine village, and enjoy its stories. Conclude your cycling adventure in Trier, Germany's oldest city, where a city round trip beckons you to discover world-known attractions and relish the atmosphere steeped in history. In the evening, savor the unique Riesling wine in one of Trier's traditional wine taverns, surrounded by an atmosphere steeped in history.
