Spend 22 days immersed in the highlights of the Rockies Yukon and Alaska with a guide
Want to explore the best of the Canadian Rockies, Yukon and Alaska? This is the trip for you, and while you’re at it, enjoy the true northern experience, and camp for 17 nights, enjoying campfires, nature and fresh air!
Tap into your wild, rugged, adventurous side for this 22-day outdoor extravaganza that will have you camping across Alberta, British Colombia, Yukon and Alaska. Get to know the landscapes, emulating highly praised artistic wonders, sweeping rocky ridges, tundra, forest groves, aquamarine bodies of water nestled below snow-capped mountain peaks, as you explore a myriad of renowned national parks. Keep this mantra in mind during The Rockies, Yukon, and Alaska Hiking & Camping Tour: adventure the wild by day, tent in a campground by night.
After hiking and camping in the Canadian Rockies, you will fly from Calgary to Whitehorse for seamless immersion into the Yukon’s and Alaska’s rich, gold-rush-centric history—no pun intended—and layers of untouched, unspoiled scenery. Enjoy spending time strolling through postcard-painted towns, such as Banff, Skagway, and Dawson City.
Once you arrive at the airport in Calgary, hop on a shuttle bus to your hotel, where you’ll meet your guide. Discuss the upcoming tour over a complimentary dinner with your group.
After consuming a complimentary breakfast, travel away from skyscrapers to the fresh mountain air and breathtaking views blanketing Canada’s ever-so coveted Banff National Park. Set up your tent in a campground shaded by a lush forest before embarking on a short hike on one of the trails surrounding Lake Minnewanka. Marvel at the idyllic backdrop, unveiling mountains jetting out of the lake as you walk.
Spend another day basking in Banff’s scenic bliss. Begin your day with a hiking adventure. Travel along ridges, through alpine meadows, and past glistening lakes. Notice the dramatic views painting the land as you trek. Expect to walk 2 km further than planned if you, your group, and your guide have the energy to continue walking. In the evening, stroll the charming town, brimming with rustic-style buildings set against a mountain backdrop.
Pack up your tent and head to the quiet town of Lake Louise that glimmers with a shy, but enticing beauty. Admire the turquoise waters cradled by sky-high mountains, laden with snow, as soon as you enter this gorgeous hamlet. Embark on a brief 3.5 km hike to Lake Agnes Tea House set on the shoreline. Opt to venture on more hikes: go on a 15 km circuit or trek 2. 5 km to the Plain of Six Glaciers. Use the showers provided at the campsite and enjoy a relaxing evening outside.
Tap into your adventurous side and enjoy an exhilarating day speeding through Kicking Horse River on a white-water rafting trip. Stop in Golden, B.C for a brief side trip. If white water rafting isn’t your thing, opt to go another hike in Yoho National Park. It’s suggested to go on an 18 km trek that reveals majestic views of Emerald Lake.
Let your mind immerse in another world, one far different from reality as you travel along the famed Icefields Pathway to Jasper National Park. Admire the array of waterfalls, glaciers, sometimes frozen, as you drive. Stop Bow Summit and Peyto Lake for a tremendous vista of a vibrant blue sheet of water shimmering amid quintessential Canadian scenery—towering mountains and forest. Embark on a short, but intense hike viewpoint that overlooks the Saskatchewan glacier. Enjoy a hot shower and a fun night at your campground.
Jasper National Park perfectly emulated an outdoor haven. Opt to swim and picnic at Pyramid Lake, go mountain biking, canoeing, or hike. The hiking option will carry you to Maligne Lake, another stunning view, complete with mountains faded in the background, while a bright blue lake begs for attention in front. If your legs allow, travel higher to the tower above the lake below.
Embark on another 8 km hike in the Rockies near Columbia Icefields and enjoy lunch before heading back to Calgary.
Take a flight from Calgary to Whitehorse. Meet up with your new guide, equipment, and van, and get ready for more magical outdoor expeditions.
Head up to Canada’s northernmost highway after munching on breakfast! Fun fact: this 730 km highway connects with Inuvik, an arctic community. Travel to Tombstone Territorial Park, where rocky ridges, mountain slopes, and arctic tundra span the land.
Spend the day exploring Tombstone Territorial Park—marvel at the views sprawling below ridges and hike mountain slopes. Watch out for herds of caribou! Enjoy a relaxing evening by the campfire amid the park. Have the chance to participate in programs created by the rangers.
Pack up your tent and get ready to stroll through the famous, iconic Dawson City, etched with stories of the gold rush that put this legendary place on the map. Admire the buildings preserving the look and vibes of the former Klondike Gold Rush base. After exploring the myriad of famed attractions, have a rocking night at the Diamond Tooth Gerties Hall for some can-can routines and an all-around fun time. Stay at a campground overnight.
Learn more about the rich past sprinkled throughout Dawson City. Experience what it was like to pan for gold during a tour of a gold mine—which still carries gold today. Check out other noteworthy sites after panning for gold: Jack London and Robert Service Cabins and the Dawson City Museum. End the day with a rewarding drive up the Midnight Dome. Marvel at the panoramic views of the city, goldfields, Yukon River, while the Ogilvie Mountains add a bonus layer of beauty far off in the distance.
Hop in the van and traverse the Top of the World Highway to Alaska. Notice how the road snakes through rolling tundra and by two northern towns: Chicken and Jack Wade. Spend the night at another campsite.
Say goodbye to America (for now) and travel back to Canada. Wind by Kluane Lake before stopping at the Sheep Mountain visitor centre in Kluane National Park. Look out for Dall sheep dotting the surrounding slopes. Get the chance to further immerse in Canada’s vast wilderness via an optional flight over the largest non-polar ice sheets in the world and towering mountains such as Mount Logan, which stands at 6,000 metres, making it the highest mountain in Canada. Pitch your tent at a campground just outside of Haines Junction.
Spend two more days admiring the ice fields, pockets of trees, and the pristine-blue Kathleen Lake snaking through sky-high mountain passes. Meander through the alpine valleys and look out for grizzly bears and Dall sheep peppering the landscape. If the weather postponed the optional flight from Day 15, there’s a chance you’ll get to explore the park from above during these two days.
Take off your hiking boots and get ready for a day of white-water rafting on the Tatshenshini River. Spend the night camping at Million Dollar Falls and take a short walk to a majestic waterfall view.
After you pack up your tent, you will hop in the van and head back to Alaska. Admire the wildlife flocking towards the streams, where schools of salmon migrate. Watch out for bears and eagles circling around the streams. Have some time to shop and stroll through Haines, a town exploding with Tlingit culture and backed by snow-laden mountains.
Travel by ferry through the Lynn Canal, an inlet between jetting cliffs. Look out for whales and seals in the water and Alaskan brown bears dotting the shore. Reach Skagway, a town, like Dawson City, that preserved the boomtown vibes and architecture of its gold rush past. Spend the rest of the day exploring the area: hikes along the seaside or through the forest, stop by a saloon, visit a museum.
One of your last activities with your group is an optional train ride on the White Pass and Yukon Route railway. Twist along the mountain face and marvel at the steep slopes layered with a chockablock of trees. After, be sure to soak in the mountain views as you drive back to Whitehorse. Celebrate the last 21 days with your new friends over dinner before enjoying a relaxing night of rest in a hotel.
Say goodbye to your tour mates and get dropped off at either the airport or with your connecting program.
This guided hiking tour in the Rocky Mountains, Yukon and Alaska is run as a fixed-departure tour where you’d be joining a group, however, custom private tours can be organized for those willing to travel with their group only (please contact us with your preferred date and the number of people in your group and we will create the itinerary just for you).

I’ve been using 10Adventures route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10Adventures made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

My wife Sarah and I had a great experience booking our 7-day cycling trip through Portugal via 10Adventures. The communication between us and Nadine leading up the trip was top-notch!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.

Wow! I am so happy with the experience I had with booking through 10Adventures for my tour in Italy! I worked with Nadine and she was super easy-going and helpful when it came to tweaking the itinerary provided on the website. 10/10 would book through 10Adventures again.
