Itinerary for Yellowstone Hiking Adventure
Get Settled in Gardiner and Beaver Ponds Loop
Meet the group at the Bozeman airport, where you’ll be collected by the shuttle van and transported to Gardiner.
Stretch your legs on the Beaver Ponds loop trail, which offers your first peek of the region’s thermal activity! One of the highlights today will be the magnificent ever-changing travertine terraces in the Mammoth Hot Springs area.
Celebrate your first day with a welcome dinner when you return to Gardiner for the night.
Canyon and Waterfalls Hike
On your hike today you’ll be walking around Bunsen Peak and down into the deepest canyon in Yellowstone. During your hike through Sheepeater Canyon, you’ll come across spectacular Osprey Falls which tumbles from over 150 feet above you.
The Eastern Side of Yellowstone
The shuttle will be taking you to the east side of Yellowstone today, with a few stops for hikes along your route. The first will be a hike along the Chain of Lakes near Canyon Village, where blissfully serene grasslands and calm lakes dominate the landscape.
After the lakes, you’ll hike up the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. While it might not be the original Grand Canyon, it’s a stunning sight! A blue river cuts deeply through a steep canyon, dotted by groves of trees.
Your day ends in Pahaska Teepee at Buffalo Bill’s original lodge.
Climb Avalanche Peak and Visit Yellowstone Lake
Your climb to the top of Avalanche Peak will be short but steep. The view from the top of its summit at 10,568 feet is a spectacular panorama of the Grand Tetons, Mount Sheridan, and Yellowstone Lake. Enjoy!
After this amazing start to your day, you’ll take a scenic drive around the massive Yellowstone Lake. You’ll have a chance to see the geysers, fumaroles, and hot springs that surround the lake during a short hike in West Thumb Geyser Basin.
Explore the Southern Park Entrance
You’ll enjoy the seclusion of this area of the park, which is often missed as others head straight to the main tourist sights.
You have a choice between two hikes today. If you’re feeling like a slower pace, you can take a short hike through the lakes and waterfalls of Cascade Corner. If you’re up for a big adventure, you can take the 15-mile hike to visit Union Falls. At 260 feet high these falls are some of the most picturesque in the park.
Visit the Famous Yellowstone Geysers
Now that you’ve explored the far reaches of Yellowstone, it’s time for the grand finale! Today you’ll hike to Mystic Falls, followed by a visit to the famous geothermal area of the park with a stop at Old Faithful.
After lunch at the beautiful and historic Old Faithful Lodge, you’ll hike north to the Biscuit Basin, Grand Prismatic Springs, Lower Geyser Basin, and finally the Firehole River Swimming Basin. At the end of your busy day, you’ll spend your last night in West Yellowstone
Return to Bozeman
After breakfast and check-out the shuttle van will bring you back to Bozeman and drop you off at the airport.
