Eagle Lake Trail

The hike to Eagle Lake is a great flat and easy trail to a remote lake. Eagle Lake is just outside of Calgary and sees much less traffic than some other inner-city trails. The trail is flat, which makes the distance more manageable. If you come at the right time of year, you will be greeted with plenty of wildflower blooms that brighten up the trail!

Route Description for Eagle Lake Trail
The Eagle Lake Trail is a scenic trail that sees little traffic in the summer. It is a flat route that is accessible on foot or bike. You’ll leave the parking area and head south for 5.2 km to the lake. On the way, you will be able to see plenty of greenery, some wildflowers, and possibly wildlife. Many types of birds gather at the lake, so bring some binoculars and a camera on this hike.
Many people skip the trail and drive further, stopping near the lake to catch a glimpse. This is why the trail is so quiet. This is an excellent option if you are travelling east and looking to spend a few hours getting some fresh air!
Getting to the Eagle Lake Trail Trailhead
To get to the Eagle Lake trailhead, follow Highway 1 east out of the city of Calgary for roughly 40.0 km towards Strathmore. Turn right onto Spruce Park Drive, following it for 650 m before turning left onto Slater Road. From here you will find the Eagle Lake Trailhead after 500 m.
