The Stonesfield via Roman Villa Walk is an amazing route in Oxfordshire that will allow you to explore the natural beauty and fascinating history that can be found in the southeast corner of The Cotswolds AONB. While out walking the trail, you will traverse the open terrain to the south of Stonesfield to visit the ruins of the North Leigh Roman Villa before looping around to the east across the picturesque grounds of Blenheim Park. This is a great adventure for walkers that have natural and historical interests.
Route Description for Stonesfield via Roman Villa Walk
If you love ancient history and stunning views of picturesque countryside, then the Stonesfield via Roman Villa Walk is a great option to explore the beautiful outdoors of Oxfordshire. Setting out from the village of Stonesfield, you will make your way south across the open farmland until you arrive at the North Leigh Roman Villa, where you can explore the ruins of the once affluent building that dates back to roughly 100 CE. From here, make your way east across the River Evenlode, passing through the village of Combe and traversing the beautiful countryside until you arrive at Blenheim Park. Here, you can take in the beauty of the estate grounds of Blenheim Palace before turning back to the west on the return leg of the walk back to Stonesfield. To get to the trailhead for the Stonesfield via Roman Villa Walk from The White Horse Inn in Stonesfield, head to the southwest for 0.2mi along The Ridings and make a left on Boot Street. After 0.1mi, make a left onto High Street and you will find parking on the right in 0.2mi.Route Information
