Route Description for Cod Wood to View of the Valley Walk
Although it is a relatively lengthy route with a good amount of elevation gain, the Cod Wood to View of the Valley Walk is too good of an adventure to pass up, as it is filled with countless human-made and natural highlights throughout the trail.
Setting out from the Castle Drogo car park, you will head east along the Hunter’s path and eventually descend into the Teign Gorge to arrive at the historic Fingle Bridge. From here, you will make your way east along the banks of the River Teign to arrive at the View of the Valley and the remains of Wooston Castle, an Iron Age hillfort. After taking in the views, the trail will loop back to the west through Cod Wood and once again follow along the banks of the river before climbing uphill to the magnificent 20th Century grounds of Castle Drogo. At this point, it is a short jaunt back to the car park where you began your adventure.
Getting to the Cod Wood to View of the Valley Walk Trailhead
To reach the trailhead for the Cod Wood to View of the Valley Walk from Chagford, drive northeast on North Street/B3206 for 0.4mi and make a slight left to continue on for 2.5mi. Make a right here and follow the road for 0.4mi, turning right to eventually arrive at the car park.Route Information
