Route Description for Colorow Mountain Trail

The Colorow Mountain Hike is a charming nature walk near Denver. This scenic path will reward hikers with the stunning natural scenery and expansive views of the Front Range foothills and Clear Creek Canyon. This is the perfect excursion for stretching your legs and getting some movement in, and its convenient location means you won’t have to travel far to experience the lovely trail. Open year-round, trade your hiking shoes for snowshoes in the winter months! Note that rattlesnakes are abundant in this area in the summer months, so keep an eye and ear out for them and consider wearing loose pants. If you hike this trail in the summer, we suggest an early morning adventure because the meadowland segment of the path can become unbearably hot.

From the trailhead, take the Lookout Mountain Trail south. Hike this sparsely shaded path along the ridge, enjoying views of the Clear Creek Canyon as you trek. Soon after your departure from the trailhead you will confront an intersection. Here, veer left, and you will be diverted onto the Forest Loop Trail. Travel this path beneath the towering pines, keeping left at the next junction. Hike near the Boettcher Mansion and stay right at the next fork in the road. Walk through the forested terrain and at the next intersection merge onto the Meadow Loop Trail.

Follow the path as it guides you through the luxuriant meadows that reveal sights of the mountainous Colorado wilderness. Trek along the route and it will curve you back beneath the tree coverage. At the next junction, keep left, reconnecting with the Forest Loop Trail. Hike northwest along this path until you meet again the Lookout Mountain Trail. From here, simply retrace your footing along this route back to the trailhead.
