    Embark on your adventure along the Windy Saddle Lookout Mountain Hike from the Lookout Mountain Trailhead. From here, track southwest along the Lookout Mountain Trail. Shortly after your departure from the trailhead, you will confront an intersection, stay left here. Ascend the trail, navigating a set of tightly wound switchbacks through the sparse pine forest. Climb up the path, and at the next intersection, keep right. Hike the increasingly exposed route to some scenic vantage points that overlook the arid terrain below.

    After you are done reveling in the mountainous scenery, cross the road and continue along the Lookout Mountain Trail. At this point, you will pass the stunning Boettcher Mansion. Bask in the grandeur of the mansion and follow the now forested path. This section of the path hugs the curves of the Colorow Road along the meadowed terrain. Soak in the incredible vistas of the mountainous wilderness as you travel along the ridge. Soon, you will meet the trail’s end when it intersects with Colorow Road. From here, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.

The mansion was donated to Jefferson County in the 1970s and was awarded a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
