Hiking the East Pit Lake Loop is a nice way to escape the city and get some nature time. The lovely drive from Edmonton takes you into Parkland Country, AB. East Pit Lake has a few intersecting trails; however, the main loop is the best way to explore the area. Bring binoculars—this is a popular bird watching spot.
Route Description for East Pit Lake Trail
The hike around the East Spit Lake trail takes roughly 1-2 hours and is a great place for bird watching. The trail is relatively easy with minimal elevation gain. You can hike the trail in either direction from the trailhead and parking area. Follow the main trail from the parking lot. Our route begins by taking the trail to the left, hugging the shore and passing by small lookout points and intersections. Continue around the lake on the main trail for a short and easy route!
Getting to the East Pit Lake Trail Trailhead
To get to East Spit Lake trail, Join Highway 16 westbound from the city of Edmonton. Follow the highway for roughly 70.0 km. Take exit 324 for Range Road 40B to East Spit Lake. Follow signs for the lake and pull into the main parking area.
