Route Description for Hicks Lake Trail

The Hicks Lake Trail can be found within Sasquatch Provincial Park and travels in a loop around the wooded edges of the lake. Due to the proximity to the lake and the creeks that feed it, the trail can often be washed out in sections. Make sure to wear good hiking footwear, preferably water-resistant, in order to keep your feet dry and comfortable when out on the trail. This route is also in cougar territory, so be sure to follow all safety precautions including making lots of noise, travelling in groups, and carrying bear spray.

Hiking this route is a calming experience, as the views of the wooded lake and rugged mountains in the backdrop provide a picturesque landscape to accompany a light stroll in the woods. Other than a bit of washed out trail in areas close to the water, this route is very flat and the terrain is easy to navigate. This makes the trail perfect for hikers of all skill levels, including families and those with dogs.

Setting out from the parking area next to Beaver Pond, follow the trail to the east as it enters the forest and climbs slightly uphill. The trail will then turn south, following a route that runs parallel to the eastern edge of the lake as you pass by the Hicks Lake Group Campsite on your right. Continue on the trail as it hugs the lake and crosses over several streams while offering great views through the trees.

As you round the southern edge of the lake, you will cross over three more streams and reach a junction in the trail with a short detour to the right that will yield beautiful views over the water. Continue along the main trail as it follows closely along the western edge of the lake on the return journey toward the campground. Along this stretch of trail, you will have a few more opportunities to look out over the lake before arriving back at the Hicks Lake trailhead and your parked vehicle.
