    Route Description for Bear and Baree Lakes Loop Trail

    Be prepared to break a sweat while hiking the Bear and Baree Lakes Loop Trail. This scenic expedition explores a variety of terrains, boasting awe-inspiring views and an abundance of flora and fauna. Travel through mixed woodlands, vibrant montane meadows, along soaring crests, and to the lakeshore of shimmering alpine pools. This pleasant hike is no walk in the park; pack plenty of water, dress in layers, and download the trail GPS prior to departure. Don’t forget a can of bear spray—you will be touring through the unspoiled wilderness after all.

    Setting out from the Baree Creek Trailhead, the Bear and Baree Lakes Loop Trail travels northeast along the service road beneath the powerline. After some hiking, you will reach an intersection, turn left here, and you will be diverted onto the Bear Lakes Trail. This route will lead you through the lush forest, consistently climbing towards the Bear Lakes. The further you ascend into the high country, the increasingly exposed and rocky the terrain will become—boasting amazing mountain views. Once you reach the Bear Lakes, you will gain a rocky ridge up to the Cabinet Divide South Trail. Turn left here and wander along the rocky ridge—admiring the 360-degree, panoramic views of the mountainscape.

    At the following junction, turn left onto the Baree Creek Trail, climbing down to the gorgeous alpine lake and then alongside the meandering creek all the way back to the trailhead, marking the end of your adventure.
