Route Description for Hunters Canyon Trail
The Hunters Canyon Trail is a peaceful, family-friendly hike along a delightful little creek that runs year-round. The drive up to the trailhead, however, is rugged. We recommend heading up in a vehicle with decent clearance and 4WD. The trail through the canyon has lots of offshoots and parallel paths that can be confusing but keep in mind that it is a canyon—there is only one way to go in and out, so you really can’t get lost. The Hunters Canyon Trail gets few visitors, which is a shame because it is so beautiful, but the upside to this is that you may be lucky enough to have the canyon all to yourself. For an especially gorgeous hike, we recommend heading out on this trail in November when the fall colours of the canyon flora and foliage are in full swing.
From the Hunters Canyon Campground follow the trail along the creek as it winds southeast. Pick your way along the various paths for 2.6 km to the turn-around point.
Take time on the way back to explore the nooks and crannies of this beautiful canyon and cool your feet in the freshwater stream before heading home.
