Route Description for Winchester Mountain Trail
Winchester Mountain has a lookout that presides over the Twin Lakes and surrounding mountains, offering an excellent view and a top-notch camping spot if you get there early enough to claim it. This trail isn’t too difficult, but the views are awesome.
This route gets a bit narrow in parts, and the constant switchbacks make poles a good choice. Bring a tent if you want to camp on the summit in case the lookout is already taken.
From the parking lot between the two lakes, head up the mountain, staying left where High Pass Trail intersects. You’ll switchback all the way up, taking breathers to appreciate the constant views. Where the trail traverses west, you’re nearly there.
After a couple of last switchbacks to the lookout on the summit, settle in to take in the view. From here, it’s back down the same way you came up.
