Route Description for Kiwanis Trail to Las Lomitas Trail Loop

This loop hike explores the heart of the South Mountain Preserve using two trails. You’ll do some steep climbing through a canyon to Goat Hill, where views of the city and the surrounding mountains and ridges of the preserve are awesome. With a steep descent followed by a relaxed ending, this is a great hike with a bit of everything to enjoy.

You’ll be working hard on the climb and out of the shade for most of this hike. You’ll want to bring lots of water with you, avoid hiking in the heat, and wear sun protection.

From the trailhead, take Kiwanis Trail to immediately enter a canyon. You’ll make your way up through this canyon to the Overlook, which is a nice place to take a breather. Continue up through the last few switchbacks and then begin your traverse along the cliff. Once you’re at the top of Goat Hill, begin your descent through the switchbacks, then enjoy the relaxed return to the trailhead.
