Route Description for First Bench of Wilson Mountain Hike
As the tallest mountain in the vicinity of Sedona, Wilson Mountain is the ideal pick for hikers who want to push themselves in exchange for incredible views. Those who don’t quite want to go all the way to the top can enjoy the views from the First Bench. This hike is a bit strenuous, but it’s not technically demanding, making it suitable for adventurous intermediates.
This hike can get very hot. If you’re hiking in the summertime, we strongly recommend starting as early in the morning as you can to avoid the intense heat. Bring lots of water and a windbreaker.
The hike begins just past the picnic area, climbing up beside a gully. It’s a moderate climb until you make a right turn and begin the push up to First Bench, which is quite steep and tiring. Crest the bench and catch your breath as you enjoy the superb view from here. You can either turn back or follow the rest of the route to the actual summit if you want to see more.
