Route Description for Lake Eleanor Campground Trail
Family-friendly and incredibly scenic, the Lake Eleanor Campground Trail is a must add to your Yosemite itinerary. Wander through the lush wilderness while exploring the area’s diverse flora and fauna. Note: much of the trail is exposed, so be sure to check the forecast and prepare accordingly. Additionally, we recommended sun protection and wearing layers in the event of a sudden change in conditions. Furthermore, we suggest wearing a sturdy pair of footwear, as sections of this undulating route are quite rocky and uneven. Though not necessary, the trail GPS may prove useful, as much of the path lacks proper signage. The National Park charges an entrance fee; refer to the NPS website for additional details.
Embark on your adventure along the Lake Eleanor Campground Hike from the trailhead off Forest Route 1N14. Setting out from here, you will follow the unnamed route and climb northeast through the woodlands. Enjoy the sparse tree shade while you can! As you climb, you will be granted awe-inspiring views of Cherry Lake in the west through the tree breaks. Continue along this trail and turn right at the first intersection you encounter. Soon, you will reach the Lake Eleanor Trailhead and keep right to follow this path down to the Lake Eleanor Campground.
From the campground, you will be rewarded with impressive panoramas of the glittering alpine lake that is encircled by pines and bounded by granite bluffs. Admire the scenery and, when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
