Route Description for Tenaya Lake Loop Trail
Seeking an easy-going and scenic adventure in Yosemite? The Tenaya Lake Loop Trail is a great trek that the whole family can enjoy! Wander through the mixed pine woodlands that surround the glittering alpine lake, and revel in the views of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range from the tree breaks. Note: much of this walk travels along the Tioga Pass Road. If you do not wish to walk along the road, then this trek can be easily converted into an out and back adventure that departs from the Tenaya Lake Trailhead further down the road to the west. The National Park charges an entrance fee; refer to the NPS website for additional information.
Embark on your adventure along the Tenaya Lake Loop Trail from the Murphy Creek Trailhead. From here, head east along the Tioga Pass Road. Remain on the shoulder of the road and mind any vehicles passing by. Eventually, you will reach the Tenaya Lake Trail on the right-hand side. Wander the path south past the beach and take in the breathtaking views of the alpine landscape. Follow this path west as it snakes around to the southern side of the lake through the woodlands. Enjoy the sights of the shimmering lake through the tree breaks.
At the next intersection, turn right and hike along the Clouds Rest Trail to Tioga Pass Road. Keep right and begin hiking east all the way back to the Murphy’s Creek Trailhead and parking lot.
