This self-guided Causeway Coast hike is perfect for a quick adventure
The Causeway Coast is the jewel of Northern Ireland, a stunning region perfect for adventure! On this 3-day self-guided hiking tour, you’ll see the highlights of this rugged coastline with endless views to enjoy.
The tour begins and ends in the seaside town of Ballycastle, where you’ll spend both nights. After an evening to explore the town, start Day 2 with a loop around the Fair Head Cliffs, dramatic scenery on all sides. The final day contains a great deal of sightseeing, including beachside hamlets, swaying rope bridges, and the legendary Giant’s Causeway. After a long day of adventure, return to Ballycastle and depart from the region. While this tour is shortened from the 5-day version, it’s packed with unforgettable sights!
Arrive in the coastal town of Ballycastle, your home for the journey. The town was recently named the best place to live in Northern Ireland, and you’ll be sure to enjoy its charms during your tour.
Check into your accommodations and pick up your detailed information pack, which includes route guides and contact information. Enjoy an evening at leisure.
Enjoy an impressive coastal hike today, setting out from Ballycastle and circling Murlough along with the dramatic Fair Head. This headland ends in a massive cliff with panoramic views – a real stunner! If the weather and visibility are poor, take a lower route along one of the looped walks that begin at Fair Head Farm.
Return to Ballycastle for the evening. Today’s paths are a mix of road walking and gravel tracks, which can be uneven underfoot – good boots are essential.
Today starts with a short taxi to Larrybane and the striking Carrick-a-Rede Bridge. This rope bridge connects the island of the same name to the mainland over an 80-foot drop into the ocean – don’t look down! Continue along the coast to Ballintoy, a tiny village at the foot of the cliffs.
As you head west, you’ll pass the beautiful White Park Bay and the hamlet of Portbradden, which once contained the smallest church in all Ireland. Gaze upon the ruins of Dunseverick Castle (visited by Saint Patrick himself) before arriving at the Giant’s Causeway. Undoubtedly a highlight for any traveller, this promenade of basalt columns is like nothing else on Earth.
When you’re ready to depart, call your taxi for the transfer back to Ballycastle. Check out of your accommodations and depart the region via your own arrangements.

I’ve been using 10A route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10A made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
