Itinerary for Joshua Tree Hiking Tour
Travel to Joshua Tree and Introductory Hike
You’ll meet in Palm Springs and then be shuttled to Joshua Tree National Park. You’ll begin your first hike to Fortynine Palms Oasis. You’ll have an easy climb to a lookout that will give you a great view of Twentynine Palms, which is where you’ll be staying throughout the tour.
Explore the Rock Formations in Wonderland
Begin your hike on the Boy Scout Trail as it winds through a Joshua Tree forest and offers amazing views of the San Bernardino Mountains. You’re hiking towards the Wonderland area, which is littered with enormous boulders and stone pillars. It might just feel a bit like Mars!
Cottonwood Springs and Mastodon Peak Climb
Today begins at the Visitors Center where you’ll start hiking towards Cottonwood Springs. You’ll really give your legs a workout as you hike up to the top of Mastodon Peak, which is considered to be one of the best hikes in the park!
From there you’ll be heading to the Lost Palms Oasis to explore its pools and fan palms. It’s an oasis in every sense!
Hike the Panorama Loop
The Panorama Loop is located in the Canyon area and offers completely different landscape and vegetation for you to explore. During your hike, you’ll have the option to make the scramble to the very top of Warren Peak. It will be worth the extra effort as you’ll have panoramic views of the Little San Bernardino Mountains and Coachella Valley from the summit.
Climb Ryan Peak and Walk to Barker Dam
You’ll explore the Mojave area of the park today as you climb Ryan Peak. You won’t have to walk the entire way, as you’ll be dropped off at 4,480 feet, and will only be climbing the final 1000 feet of ascent.
In the afternoon you’ll take an easier trail to the Barker Dam which will still reward you with some dramatic scenery.
Return to Palm Springs and Explore Indian Canyons
This morning the shuttle will drive your group back to Palm Springs and drop you off in the foothills for a final hike. You’ll explore the gorges of Indian Canyons until the afternoon and then return to Palm Springs after lunch.
