This course combines foundational and mid-level climbing techniques, making it a great starting point for new climbers or a great way for intermediates to advance their skills. You’ll master hazard evaluation, top roping, anchor construction, rappelling, rock movement, anchor cleaning, and clipping. No matter where you’re starting from, this course will have you climbing like you never have before by the end! The best part? You’ll do it all in the world-class Canadian Rockies.

Outdoor Rock Climbing Level 1 & 2 in Canadian Rockies Itinerary

Day 1 Meet in Canmore and Basic Intro

Your rock climbing adventure in the Canadian Rockies begins in Canmore. You’ll jump right in with an intro followed by gear issuing and a lesson on the basics of rock movement. Learn about the top rope climbing system, practice belaying, and go over rope care and management.

You’ll start climbing routes this afternoon to put what you’ve learned into practice.

Day 2 Local Climbing

Today is a full-on immersion in climbing. You’ll go over crag hazard evaluation, use guidebooks to interpret topos, practice movement skills through bouldering, consolidate your top roping skills, learn about anchor construction, practice rappelling, and have lots of time to just climb.

Day 3 Multi-Pitch Climbing

Head out to try your hand at a multi-pitch climb in Canmore, Banff, or Lake Louise. You’ll be put on a route suitable for your skill level and spend the day working on a challenging (just challenging enough!) objective.

Day 4 Local Climbing Day

Today you’ll refine your leading and clipping techniques, practice simulated or real leads, continue with anchor cleaning, and progress in your movement development.

By today you’ll be learning about managing high first bolts, continuing with anchor cleaning, and refining your technique.

End it all off with a debrief and some final takeaways to help you keep building your skills in the future.

This guided skills training course is run as a fixed-departure tour where you’d be joining a group, however, custom private tours can be organized for those willing to travel with their group only (please contact us with your preferred date and the number of people in your group and we will create the itinerary just for you).
