See South Africa with the whole family
There’s something for every family member in stunning South Africa, and the 19-Day South Africa Family Tour is the perfect way to explore the landscapes, cities, and natural wonders of this unforgettable country.
From Pretoria to Durban, the 19-Day South Africa Family Tour shows you the captivating cities of South Africa through tours. Then, you’ll dive deep into nature, cruising on game drives through Kruger National Park and exploring hidden waterfalls. Lions and elephants give way to dolphins and turtles when the 19-Day South Africa Family Tour takes you to the pristine Dolphin Coast, where you’ll snorkel in the blue waters or help the kids catch their first fish. The 19-Day South Africa Family Tour is partially customizable, so whether you prefer to hike in Northern Drakensberg or relax on a boat cruise in Kosi Bay, the family can enjoy South Africa to the fullest.
Welcome to South Africa! Once you and your family arrive at the airport in Johannesburg, you’ll be met by your guide and taken to the hotel in nearby Pretoria. The rest of the evening is free to do as you please.
The first full day of your family tour of South Africa begins with a tour of beautiful Pretoria, a flower-filled city with some of South Africa’s most beautiful sights nearby. You’ll be shown the Union Buildings, the official seat of the South African Government, Church Square, and Voortrekker Monument. This will give you some insight into South Africa’s government, architecture, and history. Then, it’s off to lunch and some of the local museums and shops. In the late afternoon, you’ll enjoy the amenities at the resort in Blyde Canyon where you’ll spend the night.
After breakfast, you’ll be driven to a lookout point with several hiking trails branching off from it. Those who’d like to can explore on foot, but those who prefer to just enjoy the view can admire the Three Rondavels. Then, it’s off to God’s Window, a canyon area with stunning waterfalls and sheer cliffs. Bring a camera! Finally, you’ll explore Bourke’s Luck Potholes, a short pathway that winds alongside waterfalls and whirlpools.
A family trip to South Africa wouldn’t be complete without a stop in Kruger. This national park boasts world-renowned nature and wildlife, and you’ll be treated to an afternoon bush walk to explore. The kids can take part in a mini ranger course, and then it’s to the pool to enjoy the rest of the day.
Today, you’ll get in touch with local families at a nearby primary school. Maybe the kids will make some new friends? Then, you’ll make a stop at the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre to view cheetahs, lions, antelope, and more in a special protective habitat. The evening can be spent at your leisure.
The gem of Kruger is the wildlife, so you’ll have another chance today to view animals in their natural habitats. The family will enter Kruger’s south area in a closed game drive vehicle and search for the area’s plentiful rhinos and lions, among others. Keep an eye out for ancient San rock paintings near the hippo hangout! Then, you’ll set up your campsite and help the guide prepare dinner for everyone.
Missed a cheetah or giraffe the day before? Enjoy a full day out in Kruger finding wildlife. You’ll have a picnic lunch break in between, but the day is yours to experience the fantastic nature of South Africa.
This is your last day in Kruger, and your family can enjoy the beauty of the park from the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle at sunrise. Later, pick the perfect spot for your picnic lunch and enjoy the animals!
Bid Kruger adieu as you continue on to the tiny Kingdom of Swaziland, recently renamed eSwatini. A morning stop at the Lowvled Botanical Gardens in Nelspruit gives you the chance to appreciate stunning waterfalls at the convergence of two rivers, and then it’s off to the Jane Goodall Institute in the afternoon. Here, you and the family can take a tour to learn about Jane Goodall and her beloved chimpanzees before settling in at the hotel before dinner.
There’s something for each family member at the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary. Adventurous groups can enjoy horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking. Laid-back crews can enjoy cultural village tours and game drives. Then, it’s to the local chocolate shop for a treat before the end of the day!
The next part of your family tour of South Africa takes you to Kosi Bay, a beautiful bay on South Africa’s majestic coastline near Durban. The beaches here are sublime and the marine life is plentiful. You’ll set up camp for the next few nights and then have the evening free to enjoy the area.
The family has the chance to choose what to do today. Options include fishing, snorkelling, boat cruises, hiking, birding, and seasonal loggerhead turtle tours. Hard choices!
You’ll have another chance to pick and choose your family’s adventure in Kosi Bay today. Whatever you choose, enjoy!
St. Lucia was South Africa’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, and this beautiful area houses an estuary with pristine natural beauty and plentiful wildlife. The family will be treated to a boat cruise along the estuary to explore this incredible area. Then, it’s back to camp to relax for the evening.
The KwaZulu-Natal North Coast is dubbed the “Dolphin Coast” for its massive population of resident bottlenose dolphins, and this is where the next portion of your family’s South African tour leads you! The beaches here are pristine, and you’ll have the whole afternoon to enjoy them after arriving at the hotel in Ballito.
The Dolphin Coast deserves a full day of enjoyment, which is exactly what you’ll get today. Spend the day however the family likes, whether it’s kicking back at the beach or finding a local activity to do.
The morning starts with a transfer to Durban, where you’ll enjoy an orientation tour of this wonderful city. The tour stops at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, where the family can ride a skycar up to enjoy a birds-eye view of the city and the Indian Ocean beyond. Then, it’s onwards to the Nelson Mandela capture site, where you can learn more about the history of this place. The kids can enjoy trampolines and jungle gyms here, and then it’s off to the hotel for the evening.
The last full day of your family tour of South Africa begins with a drive to the Spioenkop Nature Reserve, where fishing, walking, horseback riding, game viewing, and birding await. Afterwards, you have time to enjoy the activities at the hotel before dinner.
Time to pack the family up and head home! Your guide will take you to the airport and help you check in before saying goodbye.

I’ve been using 10Adventures route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10Adventures made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

My wife Sarah and I had a great experience booking our 7-day cycling trip through Portugal via 10Adventures. The communication between us and Nadine leading up the trip was top-notch!

Communicating with 10Adventures feels like talking with a family-run business. I love to explore and travel, and exploring with the comfort of knowing I can talk to the team at 10Adventures with almost immediate feedback helps to ease any stress that comes with adventuring!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
