Night 1-2
Hotel in Bressanone
This stunning place is the oldest town in Tyrol. Nestled among the Dolomites and near a river confluence, you’ll wonder if you stumbled into a postcard.
Experience South Tyrolean hospitality as you cycle through epic landscapes
South Tyrol is home to the Dolomites, stunning medieval towns, and a smattering of castles perched on hilltops. Over 8 days on the South Tyrol Bike Tour, you’ll ride among these fantastic sites while enjoying comfortable accommodation chosen for you each night. Starting and ending in Bressanone, the oldest town in the area, you’ll have 5 full days of cycling routes to explore different sites including vineyards, a spa town, lakes, orchards, and the capital of South Tyrol. You can have a rest day on the last day, or you can explore on your own.
Visiting South Tyrol opens you up to a unique area where distinct cultures have intersected and evolved. In the hub of Bolzano, you’ll experience an Austrian-Italian blend where residents speak both Italian and German and where the food represents this fusion as well. For this tour, you can choose between standard hotels (3 and 4-star) or deluxe hotels (4-star). No matter which options you choose, the South Tyrol Bike Tour will forever stick in your mind. Ride on!
You’ve arrived in the oldest town in Tyrol! Depending on when you arrive, explore the narrow streets this evening in search of your first of many Italian feasts. Settle into your hotel for a good night’s sleep.
Fill up on a lovely breakfast before today’s journey. You’ll first hop in a transfer to Dobbiaco where your bike will be waiting for you. From this stunning mountain town near the Austrian border, you’ll cycle back through a deep valley alongside the Rienz River. Today’s ride gives a memorable first impression of what the Dolomites have to offer.
Return to Bressanone for the night.
Say ciao to Bressanone for now as you ride south through fragrant vineyards towards Bolzano. Feel free to stop along the way to sample some local grape juice, then take the recommended stop in Chiusa, a postcard-worthy town tucked in between green hills.
Continue to Bolzano to stop for the night, a larger town with sweeping views of green fields, forested hills, and the Dolomites in the background.
Today, you’ll do a 45-km loop around Lake Kalter, south of Bolzano. On the way, you’ll see the stunning Castle Signumndskron, then enter into Appiano, a well-known wine-producing area in Tyrol. The pastoral–chic scenes will impress you with farms, old churches, manors, and castles all around.
You can stop at Caldaro village to look at the Wine Growing Museum before curving around and heading back to Bolzano.
After breakfast, you’ll ride to the next destination, passing by the great castle you saw yesterday. Then, you’ll start winding through orchards and more wineries (care for another glass?) before you hit a series of villages: Terlano, Nalles, and Lana. All are worth stopping into for a quick espresso.
You’ll end the day in Merano, a spa town with magical botanical gardens that definitely need to be visited while you’re here.
Early in the morning, you’ll hop a train to Malles through the Vinschgau Valley. Stop first in Glorenza, then continue through aromatic orchards and several hamlets before reaching Merano for another night.
After breakfast, you’ll receive a transfer over Jaufenpass (2,092m) to reach Vipiteno to start your ride. If you want some extra downhill, you can hop out at the pass and cycle to reach Vipiteno, about 15km extra.
Cycle south through an immense green valley and continue to Bressanone. It’s your last night—find an inviting restaurant for a celebratory dinner.
Finish breakfast and head to your room to pack up. You’ll find your way from here to your next destination. If requested at booking, airport transfers can be arranged for a fee.

I’ve been using 10Adventures route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10Adventures made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

My wife Sarah and I had a great experience booking our 7-day cycling trip through Portugal via 10Adventures. The communication between us and Nadine leading up the trip was top-notch!

Communicating with 10Adventures feels like talking with a family-run business. I love to explore and travel, and exploring with the comfort of knowing I can talk to the team at 10Adventures with almost immediate feedback helps to ease any stress that comes with adventuring!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
