Itinerary for Yellowstone Thorofare Backpacking Tour
Arrive at Bozeman Airport and Let the Adventure Begin!
Your journey begins today! You’ll meet your group and backpacking guides in Bozeman and get to know each other over lunch at a local brewery. Then, you’ll tour a bit of Yellowstone along the way to the frontcountry campsite where you’ll unwind for the evening.
At camp, you’ll organize your packs together and make sure you have all the gear you’ll need! You’ll also split up some food and gear to share among the group before setting out tomorrow.
Enter the Backcountry
You’ll get an early start on the trail this morning as you head for the backcountry, traveling to the north shore of Yellowstone Lake where the adventure begins! You’ll cover 13.5 miles and arrive at your serene camp right on the lakeshore. At camp, you’ll cook up a delicious dinner before setting up your tents and gathering around the fire to chat and share some laughs with the group.
Grand Prismatic Springs and Old Faithful
Today, you’ll hike 15.5 miles along the Yellowstone River and under some of the tallest towering peaks in the park. You’ll arrive at your campsite at Three Mile Bend, where you can take a dip in the refreshing river before setting up camp like pros.
Trek to Fox Creek
Up and at ’em! You’ll head west for another day of scenic walking today, and pick up with the South Boundary Trail. You’ll cross several rushing creeks and rivers as you hike 15.6 miles to your stop for the evening: Fox Creek.
Old Faithful and Grand Prismatic
Today is yet another day of riveting outdoor adventure! You’ll hit Yellowstone’s most famous features: Grand Prismatic Spring and Old Faithful. After enjoying nature’s show, you may have time for one last guided hike as part of the Yellowstone tour.
In the afternoon, you’ll slowly make your way back to Jackson.
Hike Along Snake River
You’ll hike the final 9.2 miles along the Snake River (and past some amazing thermal features) to the South Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. You’ll meet the shuttle, which will transfer the group back to the starting point.
You’ll have time to explore some of Yellowstone’s more famous features like Old Faithful and Grand Prismatic before heading to West Yellowstone for a night of hard-earned relaxation at luxury glamping tents! You ’ll enjoy a filling dinner at a local restaurant and toast s’mores over a bonfire this evening.
Departure Day
Enjoy a leisurely morning at camp before heading to Bozeman for your departing flight! Along the way, you may have time to stop at a local hot spring for a dip.
