The Castle Canyon Trail to Inspiration Point is a challenging hike within the boundaries of the Angeles National Forest of Southern California. While out on the trail, you will climb up the lower slopes of Echo Mountain and past the ruins of the Mount Lowe Observatory, before pushing on to Inspiration Point for some beautifully scenic views. This is a tough hike, so be sure to come prepared with protection from the sun, supportive footwear, and plenty of water.

Route Description for Castle Canyon Trail to Inspiration Point

If you are after some beautiful Southern California views and don’t mind feeling the burn as you trek into the mountains, then the Castle Canyon Trail to Inspiration Point will be a fantastic route for you to explore.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will pass through the allegedly haunted Cobb Estate, before climbing uphill along the slopes of Echo Mountain. Take a moment to pause and look behind you throughout this stretch of the hike for some lovely views over the city.

Continuing on to the northeast, you will pass by the ruins of the Mount Lowe Observatory and push further uphill to eventually arrive at Inspiration Point. Here, you will be surrounded by beautiful views of the undulating terrain that stretches out in every direction. After taking in the views, simply retrace your steps along the trail to return to the starting point of your hike.

The trailhead for this hike can be found near the Cobb Estate in Altadena, at the corner of E Loma Alta Drive and N Lake Avenue.
