The Crystal Lake to South Mount Hawkins Trail is a wonderful hiking route in Southern California that offers views of the surrounding landscape. While out on the trail, you will make your way through some scattered forest cover, before trekking along the N Crystal Lake Road to reach the summit of South Mount Hawkins. Although this route does see a lower volume of foot traffic, the parking lot will fill up quickly as there are plenty of hikes and other activities in the Crystal Lake area. Be sure to arrive early to secure a parking space!
Route Description for Crystal Lake to South Mount Hawkins Trail
Whether you are spending a few days camping at the Crystal Lake Campground or are simply after a fun day hike with a decent overall distance, the Crystal Lake to South Mount Hawkins is a great route to explore. Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way north through some light tree cover until you reach the edge of the fire road. From here, you will turn right and follow the road as it climbs uphill to the southeast. After a steady climb, you will eventually arrive at the summit of South Mount Hawkins, where you can rest up and enjoy the scenic views that spread across the SoCal landscape.
