    Route Description for Bear Peak Western Ridge to South Boulder Peak Hike

    The Bear Peak Western Ridge to South Boulder Peak Hike is an epic adventure reserved for intrepid explorers. Demanding stamina, hikers will summit not one, but two incredible peaks in the foothills. Perfect as a conditioning hike for those hoping to ascend a Colorado 13er or 14er, this hike will push your limits without overly exhausting you. Be mindful of wildlife as you hike through the wilderness and in the winter months, wear microspikes to safely navigate the likely icy terrain. Be sure to pack plenty of water because this steep climb will undoubtedly tire you.

    Embark on your adventure along the Bear Peak Western Ridge to South Boulder Peak Hike from the Green Mountain West Ridge Trailhead. From here, track the Green Mountain West Ridge Trail southeast through the meadowlands. Eventually, you will encounter an intersection. Here, turn right and you will be diverted onto the Green Bear Trail. Trek along the grassy path to Bear Creek, where you will encounter another junction. Here, keep right onto the Bear Peak West Ridge Trail. This path will begin to climb up to the summit of Bear Peak.

    As you near the summit you will be required to scramble up the steep terrain. From the peak enjoy expansive views of the Boulder cityscape and the Front Range peaks that line the summit before following the path across the saddle up to South Boulder Peak. Revel in the 360-degree vistas from the peak, and when you are ready, simply retrace your footing back to the trailhead.
