The Kohler Mesa Trail is an awesome adventure along the flat top mountain that reveals wonderful sights of the Flatirons, Bear Peak and South Boulder Peak. Get in your daily movement as you hike through various landscapes, which each reveal the beauty and diversity of the Colorado wilderness.
Route Description for Kohler Mesa Trail
The Kohler Mesa Trail is a unique excursion that exhibits the stunning ecosystems of the foothills. Hike through grasslands, evergreen forests, and along impressive sandstone outcroppings. Ideal for a morning run or afternoon wander, you will be rewarded with epic scenery and the opportunity to spot wildlife. When hiking in the summer months be mindful of rattlesnakes as you pass through the meadowlands. Note the initial segment of the trail is the steepest as you ascend the mesa, but don’t let that discourage you, the terrain will level out atop the mountain.
Departing from the trailhead, track the Four Pines southwest, hiking through a luxuriant meadow before begin delivered amongst towering pines. The Four Pines Trail will eventually come to an end where hikers will merge onto the Kohler Mesa Trail. Enjoy the sweet smell of the ponderosa pines and keep an eye out for wildlife as you trek. At the trail’s end, turn left, hooking on the Mesa Trail. Hike the Mesa Trail along the foot of the Flatirons over to Boulder Creek. When you meet the babbling waters of the creek, you are at your turnaround point.
Retrace your footing along the Mesa Trail, passing the Kohler Mesa intersection. At the junction with the Enchanted Mesa Trail, turn right. Trek east along the forested route, turning right onto the Enchanted Kohler Spur Trail. Hook back onto the Kohler Mesa Trail at the next junction and retrace your footing along the Four Pines Trail all the way back to the trailhead.

The Kohler Mesa Trail is accessed via the Four Pines Trailhead at the intersection of King Avenue and 17th Street in Boulder.
