Route Description for Kenosha Pass North Hike

It is no secret that the Kenosha Pass North Trail is the best place to immerse yourself in the golden aspens in the fall. Though the hike is open in the summer alike, this trail is most popular in September and October when the foliage starts to change color. If you are an autumn lover like us, then you will appreciate the beautiful fall scenery along the Kenosha Pass North Trail. Due to its popularity in the fall, the small parking lot fills up fast! Grab your morning coffee and head out to the trail before noon to avoid the crowd. If the parking lot is full when you arrive, park across the highway at the Kenosha Pass East Trailhead, which has bathroom facilities.

As we’ve mentioned, we think this is the picture-perfect fall hike. Put on some plaid and set out on the nature walk, and you will be the epitome of autumn. Though we maintain that this trail is better in the fall, the summer months might just be as stunning. Either way, you will hike through the dense aspen woodlands, along the soft forest floor, and past shimmering creeks all before the trail opens up to lush meadows that allow you to bask in mountainous vistas for as far as the eye can see. This inspiring hike will impress all of its adventurers. Next time you are in the Denver area, make a trip to the Kenosha Pass.

Embark on your adventure along the Kenosha Pass North Hike from the trailhead off Highway 285. Hook onto the Colorado Trail Segment 6 and track northwest. Shortly after your departure from the carpark you will confront an intersection, here, stay straight on the Colorado Trail. Hike along the trail as it encompasses you with lush aspen trees. Track the wooded path, gaining elevation in the initial section of the hike.

The trail will plateau as you continue trekking through the forest. At this point, you will get sneak peaks of the impressive vistas to come. Descend below the treeline again while keeping an eye out for moose as you walk along the path! Enjoy the smells of the verdant forest and sights of the vibrant foliage. As you hike along, notice a small creek in the south before you descend into the plains. Once you leave the shaded trail the meadowed path will present you with awe-inspiring views of the plains in the foreground of the Rocky Mountain Range.

Enjoy expansive views of the craggy peaks and admire the grandeur of the ranges that encircle you.

If you still have some energy in the reserves, hike to Jefferson Hill in the west. Hike the trail southwest until you meet the ridge of the hill. If you are done with your adventure and wish to head back, simply retrace your steps all the way back to the parking lot.
