Route Description for Three Bar Trail

The Three Bar Trail will offer its adventurers unique perspectives of the encompassing Front Range wilderness. As you make your way around the loop through the grassy plains, you will be rewarded with vistas of green rolling hills and sights of the snow-capped Front Range peaks all in one glance. This excursion is perfect for the whole family, and kids will love exploring the river’s edge! Traverse the wide, well-maintained dirt road around the Three Bar circuit, and be mindful of horse riders. Though woefully scenic, this path is entirely exposed; check the weather and dress accordingly. Layers are always a safe bet, and avoid hiking on hot summer days!

The Three Bar Trail can be completed from either direction, but we prefer going clockwise. From the trailhead, veer left on the Three Bar Trail. This path will guide you through the lush meadows and down into a river valley. Descend the dirt road, intersecting with a creek before you meet a junction. At this first fork in the road, stay straight on the Three Bar Trail. Shortly after, you will confront another intersection, lean left, and head down to the Cache La Poudre River. Explore the river’s edge before retracting your steps up the bank back to the Three Bar Trail.

When you meet back up with the junction, head left down the Three Bar Trail to complete the loop. This path will guide you along a stream. Ignore intersecting trails as you walk through the meadowlands. Eventually, this route will deliver you back to the trailhead and car park.
