Directions to Trailhead

Sun Point Nature Trail is a stunning hike through some of the most picturesque landscapes in Glacier National Park. The hike is underrated because it is a shorter hike, but you don’t need a long trail to pack in what this one does! Wander through the forest and surround yourself with lakes, waterfalls and mountains and gaze at the most stunning views.

Route Description for Sun Point Nature Trail

The Sun Point Nature Trail is a gorgeous hike that showcases so many different elements in a short time. Beginning in the parking area, you will begin descending down to St. Mary’s Lake and will be able to take in beautiful views right from the start. After a short hike, you will arrive at a junction where you will turn right to continue to Baring Falls. At 0.6 km, you will begin to see signs of the Reynolds Creek Fire in 2015 and then you will hit Siyeh Pass Trail, where you will continue straight. After 0.2 km, Baring Falls will come into view. After taking in this beautiful waterfall, continue on for a short distance and you will pass a boat dock at St. Mary's Lake.

Passing this boat dock, the trail begins to ascend, and you will see captivating views of the bluff that overlooks the lake. After snapping a few photos, continue on the trail for 2.3 km, where you will come across Gunsight Horse Trail Cutoff, and you will proceed straight at that junction. At 3.4 km, you will reach the St. Mary River, followed by the St. Mary Falls. As this is an out and back trail, return the way you came.

Getting to the Sun Point Nature Trail Trailhead

To get to Sun Point Pass from St. Mary’s, head northwest on Glacier Route 1 Road/Going-to-the-Sun Road. After 15.9 km, turn left and then take your next left. Your destination is on the right hand side.
