Jamské Pleso

Jamské Pleso (Jamské Tarn) hike is a great family-friendly trail in the High Tatras. Starting in Štrbské Pleso, this hike is very easy to follow and has beautiful scenery. The trail is not too rocky and elevation is minimum so hiking to Jamské Pleso can be a great idea for a family picnic as the tarn has lots of seating and shaded areas around. The trail is a part of the path called the Tatranská Magistrála, the 72.0 km long trail connecting easternmost and westernmost parts of High Tatras. The lake itself is not big, only 2/3 of one hectare with the deepest part being is 4 m deep.

Route Description for Jamské Pleso

This hike starts in Štrbské Pleso. The resort is quite popular among locals so on sunny weekends the parking spots fill up very quickly all around the town. Using the electric train to get to the town might be a great solution. If you prefer to drive anyways, be ready to pay up to 10 euros for a parking spot.

The Jamské Pleso hike is one of our favorite hikes in the High Tatras. The trail is wide and well-marked so getting lost is close to impossible as long as you follow the red marked path. This trail is a mix of wooded areas and beautiful fields and leads to the quiet and hidden Jamske Tarn. You will have the beautiful Tatra Mountains on your right side (including the famous Krivan) and Slovakian lowlands on your left side and on sunny days it is possible to see as far as the Low Tatras in the south. You will cross a small but energetic creek, too.

The trail starts near Hotel Solisko, the southwest part of Štrbské Pleso. When you approach the hotel from the lakeside, you will soon find the guidepost when you turn left once you reach the corner of the Hotel Solisko. Take the red trail leading towards the Jamské Pleso.

Follow the trail through the beautiful field and enjoy the beautiful views of Štrbské Pleso Lake on your right side. You can see the top of the Štrbské Pleso skiing jump slope - part of the skiing infrastructure in High Tatras.

You will pass the first junction soon, make sure to stay on the route directing towards the Jamské Pleso as the other route on your right side will lead to Furkotská Valley above.

The next junction will be called Odbočka a Biely Vah. Keep on going straight towards the Jamské Pleso as the path to your left will go towards the Biely Vah River.

The last Junction is almost next to Jamské Pleso Lake. You will leave the path to the beautiful Mount Krivan on your right side and cross the creek in front of you by using the bridge and here you are! Take the same way back.
