Route Description for Black Rock Canyon to Panorama Loop Trail

As it is easily accessible, the Black Rock Canyon to Panorama Loop Trail is rather popular, and so it can become quite busy at certain times of the year. Those looking for a more secluded experience should therefore consider less popular routes deeper within the park's interior.

Having arrived at the trailhead, go south along Black Rock Canyon Trail. The route follows a stream that could be dried up, depending on when you go. Continue along Black Rock Canyon Trail, making sure not to follow any of the diverging paths to the east. After a few miles, the trail will veer away from the stream, and start to gain elevation gradually.

As the elevation continues to rise, you will reach a junction in the trail. This junction is where the Panorama Loop Trail begins. The Panorama Loop Trail can be completed in either direction from the junction, but it is recommended you take the eastern route as it offers more shelter from the sun on hot days. The section with the highest elevation on the eastern side of the trail is a good spot to take a break, have some lunch, and revel in the scenery.

After your break, complete the Panorama Loop Trail until it returns you to the Black Rock Canyon Trail, where you can begin to backtrack your steps towards the trailhead. If you are interested in seeing some new terrain on your way back, veer west on the Burnt Line Trail as it will also bring you to the trailhead.
