The Hartsop & Angletarn Pikes Circular Walk is a challenging adventure in the Lake District that will take you from the village of Hartsop to the rugged terrain of the Angletarn Pikes. While out on the trail, you will climb uphill along some rough and rugged ground and brave the elements, all while taking in beautiful views of Hayeswater and Angle Tarn. Weather here can change rapidly, so make sure to plan for all scenarios before setting out on your walk.

Route Description for Hartsop & Angletarn Pikes Circular Walk

Walking the Hartsop & Angletarn Pikes Circular is a tough, but rewarding activity that is popular in the eastern part of the Lake District because of the scenic views and good variety of terrain. This route sets out near the village of Hartsop and heads to the east along Hayeswater Gill before arriving at the edge of the Lake of the same name. From here, you will turn more to the north and begin to climb uphill before turning to the northwest. Here, you will descend slightly towards the shores of Angle Tarn, with stunning views of the surrounding fells in every direction. After enjoying the peaceful lakeside atmosphere, you will make a short summit along the rocky terrain of Angletarn Pikes before returning back to the main trail and continuing on to the northwest. From here, you will cross over Stonebarrow Gill and arrive at Boredale Hause, at which point the trail will turn to the south and descend the hillside to the valley floor. The final leg of the walk will see you traverse the valley floor until you arrive back in the village of Hartsop.

Getting to the Hartsop & Angletarn Pikes Circular Walk Trailhead

To reach the trailhead for the Hartsop & Angletarn Pikes Circular Walk from Glenridding, head south on A592 for 4.8 km and make a slight left. Follow the road for 0.5 km and make a slight right, where you will arrive at the trailhead in 0.3 km.
