Vanalden Cave Trail

The Vanalden Cave Trail is a great Family-friendly adventure in Los Angeles that will take you to a sandstone rock formation that can be explored. While out on the trail, you will follow along Mulholland Drive, before breaking off onto the footpath for a rugged walk up to the cave. Hikers should take note that the final portion of the hike leading up to the cave is not marked, so be sure to bring a GPS or trail map for navigation.

Route Description for Vanalden Cave Trail
Featuring scenic views of the surrounding Santa Monica Mountains and a fascinating sandstone cave system, the Vanalden Cave Trail is an easy-going adventure in Los Angeles that will be fun for the entire family.
Setting out from the trailhead on Reseda Boulevard, you will make your way south and keep right at the junction onto Mulholland Drive. Here, you will follow the winding road northwest, where you will eventually find the Vanalden Trail branching off to the right.
The trail here isn’t well marked, so use a GPS for navigation if you have one handy. Turning to the south, the trail will lead you through some tree cover to arrive at Vanalden Cave. Take some time here to explore the interesting sandstone rock formations, before heading back along the same trail.
Getting to the Vanalden Cave Trail Trailhead
The starting point for the Vanalden Cave Trail can be found at the end of Reseda Boulevard.
