Route Description for Perito Moreno Glacier Hike

When compared to many of the other hiking routes within the boundary of Los Glaciares National Park, the Perito Moreno Glacier Hike is a laid back affair that the entire family will be able to enjoy. While an actual hike across the frigid glacier will require you to hire a professional guide, this fun excursion will keep you safe and sound on a series of well kept paths that feature much of the same incredible views.

After arriving at the parking lot near the trailhead, you will make your way west in order to access a series of boardwalks - also known as pasarelas - that will lead you to a number of scenic viewpoints. Each of these will offer a different vantage point overlooking the vast expanse of the glacier, so be sure to take your time and visit as many as you can!

After arriving at the first balcony, you will be met with incredible views overlooking the ice and the surrounding mountain peaks. From here, continue along the pathway to the south and complete the Lower Balcony Circuit, a short loop that will eventually lead you back to the north in order to arrive at a series of lower balconies.

Keeping left at the fork with Paseo Central, you will be inundated with incredible views at the second and north balconies, before arriving at a junction with the Paseo de la Costa. Turning left here, you will follow along the trail as it runs parallel to the edge of the Canal de los Témpanos, offering beautiful views across the water.

When you have reached the information centre and have arrived at the edge of the road, turn back and retrace your steps toward the last junction, enjoying the beautiful views of the Perito Moreno Glacier on your approach.

At the junction, keep left and follow the path east in order to climb back up to the parking lot, where you will wrap up your time on the Perito Moreno Glacier Hike. If you are looking for another great adventure trail in Los Glaciares National Park, consider checking out the Laguna Capri Hike, which sets out from El Chaltén.
