Route Description for Weir Creek Hot Springs Trail
The Weir Creek Hot Springs is a destination at the top of most visitors’ to-do lists when exploring the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. Due to the accessibility and rustic nature of the hot tubs, this area sees plenty of traffic, and because of this, there has been a negative impact on the environment—so please practice Leave No Trace principles. While the summer is the most popular season to visit the springs, winter expeditions boast an enchanting experience and more tranquility—though the hike up is known to be extremely slippery. Suitable for hikers of all skill levels and ages, this adventure to the blissful paradise is hard to beat. Before reaching the charming pool along Weir Creek, you will be treated to a peaceful wander through an enchanting forest of towering pines and cedars and rock walls. Enjoy the shade of the lush tree canopy and revel in the sounds of nature. No matter the season to explore, you will have the opportunity to bask in the primitive hot spring, which usually runs at a temperature of 100-105° F. Don’t forget your swimsuit and towel, and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated! Embark on your adventure along the Weir Creek Hot Springs Hike from the trailhead off US-12. Setting out from here, you will be led north into the forested creek canyon. Roots and rocks obstruct the path, so make sure to mind your footing! This lovely route will wind through the mixed forestlands above the gurgling stream. Be aware of passers-by as you wander the single-track trail. After some hiking, the woodlands will thin, and the path will open to the Weir Creek Hot Springs. If you are lucky, you will have the place to yourself! While the hot springs are natural, a primitive pool constructed of the area’s rocks has been constructed, damming the creek and making a perfect hot tub that can fit about ten people. Marvel at the beauty of this little slice of heaven, then luxuriate in hot water, overlooking the lush, untouched wilderness. If the basin is full or you prefer more privacy, you can hop into the creek, assuming the water isn’t moving too fast! Enjoy a relaxing soak in the natural spa, then when you are ready, retrace your footing back along the route to the trailhead. Frequently Asked Questions How hot are the Weir Creek Hot Springs?
