Route Description for Sailing Hawks Loop Trail
If you are in the Durango area and have been searching for a short hiking route that still features some rugged and fun to traverse terrain, then you should check out the Sailing Hawks Loop Trail along the lower slopes of Animas City Mountain.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will head to the northwest along a wide switchback that climbs uphill through the forested hillside. Here, you will turn more to the west and set out on a short loop through some rocky terrain along the lower slope of the mountain.
As you work around the loop portion of the trail, take some time to appreciate the natural beauty of the landscape and the surrounding views, before turning back to the east to reconnect with your original path. At this point, simply head back downhill along the same route to return to the trailhead where you started.
