Soaring Hawks Hike
The Soaring Hawks Hike is a fairly quick and easy adventure in Durango, Colorado that will take you along the forested slopes of Animas City Mountain for views of the surrounding area. While out hiking the trail, you will climb uphill past several large rocks that are the result of the mountain crumbling, before taking in the stunning views of the surrounding area and looping around through the forest. Hikers should exercise caution and keep to the side of the trail, as this route is also used by mountain bike enthusiasts.

Route Description for Soaring Hawks Hike
If you are looking for a short hike with beautiful views that won’t require you to stray too far from town, the Soaring Hawks Hike in Durango, Colorado is a fun route where you can enjoy a few hours outdoors. Trail signs in the area are fairly poor and junctions can be tricky to navigate, so make sure to bring a GPS in order to stay on the correct path.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way west through the forest to begin climbing up the lower slopes of Animas City Mountain. As you work your way to the upper portion of the trail, you will pass by large boulders and rocks that litter the area as a result of erosion and weathering of the mountain.
Take some time along the upper trail to take in the beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, before following the trail downhill to loop through the forest. Here, you will make the return into the trailhead where you began.
