Route Description for Pike Mountain Loop Trail

The Pike Mountain Loop Trail is worth adding to your southern Idaho adventure itinerary. This pleasant route explores a variety of terrains, including expansive meadows, dense woodlands, and communities of sagebrush—offering breathtaking views of Idaho’s mountain ranges along the way. While this route is a popular hiking trail, it is mostly populated by mountain bikers, so as you explore, it is important to be mindful of passers-by! Additionally, it is worth noting that the terrain is mostly exposed, so wear SPF and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated on warm sunny days. Don’t forget to bring the trail GPS; the route is not well signposted.

Embark on your journey along the Pike Mountain Loop from the parking area off Rock Creek Road. From here, take the rightmost route, heading southeastwardly, gradually gaining a ridge through the pine woodlands interspersed with aspens and an array of other flora. At the top of the ridge, you will encounter an intersection. Here, turn right and head south up to the summit of Pike Mountain. From atop the peak, you will be granted impressive views of the mountainous landscape, including the Magic Mountain Resort in the west.

When you are through admiring the scenery, head back to the junction, this time keeping right and traveling north along the top of the ridge. Enjoy the stunning scenery from the exposed crest, and after some hiking, you will ultimately reach another intersection. Turn left here, and the route will reroute you southwardly, eventually delivering you back to your vehicle.
