    Route Description for Mushroom/Hawkshead Ruins Hike

    With archaeological sites lining a challenging route, the Mushroom/Hawkshead Ruins hike is a special trek. Those who like a real adventure are best suited to this trail, which requires scrambling, routefinding, and exposed cliff climbs and downclimbs. It’s a fun trip and the views are worth the work!

    Families and those who are afraid of heights may prefer other trails, and dogs are not permitted on this route. Additionally, please do your best to leave no trace as there are several important archaeological sites and ruins on this route. Download a GPS track as the route past Boynton Canyon Trail is faint.

    From the Boynton Canyon Trailhead, take Boynton Canyon Trail up past the resort and into the canyon. Where the trail splits, begin climbing up to the ruins. You’ll be scrambling your way up, so look for the path of least resistance. Hang in there until the end, where the view is magical. From here, retrace your steps.
