Wolverine Pass Hike
Table of contents
Wolverine Pass is a good hike for days when you want a real adventure. The views are great and it’s accessible right from the northern end of Apache Junction. That being said, it’s more of an old ATV route that wasn’t designed for hikers, so the signage is poor, the trail is sandy and travels through a wash most of the way, and it’s easy to get lost. With a GPS route to follow and some gumption, you can make a fun adventure out of this trail.
Route Description for Wolverine Pass Hike
The Wolverine Pass hike is a unique trail with some real adventure involved. The route follows an ATV track that can be hard to follow in spots, but it offers a bit of a rugged, remote feeling without needing to get far out of town at all. This route required very little elevation gain, so it won’t be too much of a leg burner.
You’ll definitely want a GPS route to follow for this hike. The trail is easy to lose, especially around the back of the loop. Additionally, bring plenty of water and avoid this hike during the heat of the day. There isn’t any shade, and it can get scorching out here!
From the trailhead, you can follow the loop either way. You’ll either go clockwise and start out hiking along the very edge of the forest or take this less scenic section on the return trip. The scenery the rest of the route is much better. Continue straight through the junctions you come to and look for a great view of Dome Mountain at the back of the loop.
