Perched on the bench atop Bactrian Summit, you won’t feel like you’re in the city at all. The quick hike to the top of this low peak is via Mosaic Trail in Painted Hills Trails Park. It makes for a fun and fast adventure on its own, or you can enjoy it as a warm-up or finale in addition to other trails in the area. This hike sees light to moderate traffic and it’s suitable for all ages and skill levels.
Route Description for Bactrian Summit via Mosaic Trail
The Bactrian Summit via Mosaic Trail is a fun run up a short summit in Tucson’s Painted Hills Trails Park. With a cute summit bench to sit down and take in the view on, it’s a pleasant stop that doesn’t take much time or effort to reach. The route to the summit (Mosaic Trail) is lined with huge saguaros.
There are no restrooms at the trailhead, so come prepared. Bring water and wear sun protection, and try to plan your hike for any time outside the heat of the day. Consider using this hike to warm-up for others in the area or have it be the final stop after taking on some other trails nearby.
The hike begins at the Painted Hills Trailhead. Take Mosaic Trail to a Y-junction, where you’ll stay left. Cross the wash and take a set of easy switchbacks on the southern side of Bactrian Summit. Curve right to climb up to the summit (it really is that quick and easy), where you can sit down on the bench and take in the view. When you’re ready, simply retrace your steps.
