Alpine Lookout Hike
Alpine Lookout gives you a great view of the surrounding portion of Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest all the way to the very top of Mount Rainier. This 16.1 km hike is moderately difficult and sees light traffic. You’ll be able to summit Round Mountain en route to the lookout. There is no water on this trail and it can get hot on a sunny day, so bring plenty with you.

Route Description for Alpine Lookout Hike
For excellent views of Glacier Peak, Steven’s Pass, Dirtyface, and more, Alpine Lookout is the place to be. This moderately difficult hike offers great scenery and a reasonable challenge without the crowds that other trails in the area can draw. Bring plenty of water with you on sunny days as there are no sources on the way.
Begin at the Round Mountain Trailhead. You’ll get right into it with a climb up to the top of Round Mountain, mostly following narrow switchbacks. Most of your elevation gain occurs in this first section of the route. At the junction with Nason Ridge Trail, keep left. Head around the summit and traverse the ridge to the lookout. Soak up the views before retracing your steps back to the trailhead.
Getting to the Alpine Lookout Hike Trailhead
The trailhead for the Alpine Lookout hike is off FS 170. There is parking at the trailhead.
