Route Description for Sentinel Meadows Trail
The Sentinel Meadows Trail is a lovely hike in Yellowstone National Park. This trail does not have the drama of active geysers or bubbling mud pots, but it does offer incredibly beautiful views of the Yellowstone landscape. The gentle inclines on this trail are doable for families with kids or lightly experienced hikers though proper hiking footwear is strongly recommended. With flora and fauna abound, Sentinel Meadows is a great place to get away from the crowds and appreciate the beauty of the Wyoming wilderness.
Beginning at the Fountain Flats Drive/Freight Road Trailhead, follow the path south to a divide. Take the trail on your right to hike west through the Sentinel Meadows at the divide. Check out the Sentinel Meadows East Campground on your right for a place to rest and enjoy a snack. After approximately 2.1 km, turn around and retrace your steps back to the trailhead where you began.
Check out the Sentinel Meadows to Fairy Falls Loop for a longer hike in the area.
